Join us as we venture north to explore the art galleries of Victoria, British Columbia!
Legacy Art Gallery Exhibits
Upon landing, we will take a short walk (0.6 mi) to the University of Victoria’s downtown Legacy Art Gallery, where gallery staff will introduce two newly-opened exhibits. We Carry Our Ancestors “weaves together generations of Indigenous women through cedar basketry,” while the Urban Regalia exhibit “showcases the high fashion designs by contemporary Gitxsan couturier Sugiit Lukxs (Yolonda Skelton.)”
Downtown Gallery Visits & Lunch
Following our Legacy visit, the group will have time to explore numerous downtown galleries and to enjoy lunch. Galleries within two blocks include the Alcheringa Gallery, Deluge Contemporary Art, and the Madrona Gallery. We will provide a map and list of nearby galleries and lunch spots. Participants may travel together as a group, or may split up to visit different galleries or lunch venues depending upon interest.
Art Gallery of Greater Victoria: Unfathomable Things
Next we will travel together to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria to have a docent-led tour of the exhibit, Unformable Things. This exhibit includes the work of Emily Carr and other Canadian Modernists, including Lawren Harris and additional members of the Canadian Seven.
