MARGIE MCDONALD
July 23 to August 28, 2015

Margie was raised in rural Newfoundland and received her AE & BFA from Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. Originally she worked in textiles and fiber arts tending toward sculptural forms using traditional techniques. More recently Margie has been using recycling industrial materials in spontaneous mixed medium assemblage.
”Recycling is the basis of my current work because of my desire to reuse the huge variety of interesting objects that no longer have a useful life for their intended purpose. Every material has a unique nature that can be drawn out and given a new life without destroying the material's inherent qualities. I want to engage the unconventional art viewer through my materials and methods.”
The exhibition opening at PAFAC will be composed of several sculptures made from a range of recycled materials plus installation pieces specially created for this show. Margie resides and has her studio in Port Townsend.

ART OUTSIDE
over a hundred sculptures in Webster's Woods all year long

Artist’s presentation:
Thursday, March 26 at 4:30pm
Followed by the reception from 5pm to 6pm
Sculptor Shannon Weber is known for her usage of Underwater materials such as sea kelps, coastal debris, and many other found objects and wax. She believes that each material item carries its own mythologies from places collected that add to the ever-changing dialogue of each work. Her sculptures often seem to carry unintentional reflections of nomadic traditions and other mysterious archaeological thoughts to which Shannon views as talismans or amulets for others personal collections and spaces. Her works have been broadly exhibited, awarded and collected nationally in places such as the Lancaster Museum of Art where she won the “Fiber Art National Award of Excellence”, and the Mulvane Art Museum where her works are held in the Museums’ Permanent Collection. She also held a 3 month fall residency at the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology 2009. In 2014 she exhibited at the National Association of Women Artists in NY, along with being published in the 2014 Inspirational Issue 1, Spring Surface Design and Winter e/A Encaustic Art Magazine.

FAMILY OF SORTS
Artist Sue Roberts
January 29 to March 15, 2015
Artist Sue Roberts uses her artwork as the means to explore perceptions of how we judge our families and friends from their outer appearances. By going beyond the outer persona Sue investigates our feeling on the inside. Through creating narratives using ceramic figures or bust, the human form becomes the vehicle to reveal the deeper meaning of different characteristics beyond the obvious surface information. Humor and social commentary also play a large part in Sue’s sculptures by integrating unique stories into her artworks. Sue enjoys tantalizing the viewer with how much is going on inside ourselves that we often hide these sensitive territories from exposure.

BROKEN THREADS – New gallery installation by Brenda Mallory
Special Artist Presentation on Friday, July 18 at 5pm
Followed the Artist’s Reception, 5:30pm to 6:30pm
Brenda Mallory, a Portland, Oregon-based artist, uses cloth dipped into wax then begins forming repeated shapes similar to cellular growth. Making a range of different individual or large-scale sculptures each modular cell is affixed together with nuts and bolts. Working from a clear intent, Mallory describes the process, “ I work mainly with organic materials such as cloth and beeswax but I put them together with crude hardware or mechanical devices in ways that imply aberration or malformation to reflect the ongoing interference of human activity on nature’s long established systems.”
Brenda still feels the connections to her roots that are traced to her childhood in northeastern Oklahoma growing up on a working farm. Surrounded by the agriculture business and nature’s own growth process her interest in biology grew to be the source of her inspiration and the creation of her current sculptural constructions. In 2013 Mallory completed a ten-week artist residency at Anderson Ranch Art Center in Colorado, where she had the opportunity to push her own creative boundaries by experimenting with her materials and directions. She is also a MFA Mentor in the Applied Craft & Design Program at Pacific Northwest College of Art and Oregon College of Art & Craft.

The Open Circle:
Paintings By Marlana Stoddard Hayes
Nov. 16, 2012 to Feb. 17, 2013

Marlana Stoddard Hayes transforms her dialogue with nature by building layers of visual information on to canvas with transparent glazes of oil, individualistic mushroom spores that create stacked layers resembling embedded strata of sedimentary rock. As each painting gradually unfolds, a conversation ensues with elements of unpredictability that delights both the artist and the viewer.
