Explore the Dark Side of Art
Leave your inhibitions at the door because a truly extra-ordinary experience awaits as we delve into the darker side of the arts.

Enter a world where the line between reality and fantasy grows thin, where surreal dreams and bizarre imaginings come to life.

Stay alert, because all is not as it seems! Beware the undead poet and speak not of the Scottish play, for you shall witness many weird and wondrous things before this night is over.

But take heart! Exquisite wines from Camaraderie Cellars and select microbrews will offer the perfect restorative to quench your thirst, while a
curated assortment of culinary delights will indulge your palate – and sustain your energy for the night ahead.

And though this otherworldly evening must come to an end at last, your presence and financial contribution will continue on, sustaining the Fine Arts Center and its mission in the months and years to come.

'Dark Side' Performances
We've lined up some spellbinding entertainment to keep you on your toes all night long. You won't want to miss these performances -- and stay alert for a few extra surprises, as well!

The Curse of the Scottish Play
Veteran actors Anna Andersen and Simon Close explore the ancient witches’ curse that has haunted Shakespeare’s famous Macbeth for more than four centuries. What dreadful fate awaits anyone foolish enough to say its name out loud? You won’t want to miss this horrifying – and hilarious – performance.

The Dark Side of Art Through History
Buckle up for a whirlwind tour of the dark side of art with Gallery & Program Director Sarah Jane! This brief talk opens in 335 BC with Aristotle’s writings on the cathartic value of Greek tragedy; continues through Francisco Goya’s haunting Black Paintings and Kathe Köllwitz’s harrowing portrayals of human suffering; and wraps up with contemporary artist Kara Walker’s decorative and disturbing cut-paper silhouettes.

“The Tell-Tale Heart”
In Poe’s 1843 short story, “The Tell-Tale Heart,” a paranoid and unreliable narrator regales the audience with a detailed murder confession. Ginny Holladay’s gender-bent “Edgarina” Allan Poe character will appear in full costume for a dramatic reading of this classic spooky tale.
