Portraiture: Honest Storytelling & Empowerment
Photography workshop with Jessica Holleque
Photography workshop with Jessica Holleque
Saturday, March 2, 1-4pm at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center
Behind the lens, we become the storytellers for the people in front of our cameras. This workshop is an opportunity to learn and discuss in community, how to look critically at the photographer/subject power dynamic. Together we will explore ways to work from an empathetic lens, empower our subjects, and map a road to honest image making. The day will include group discussions, self portraiture exercise, and an opportunity to use the tools we've learned in a live photo session.
Please bring your camera, notebook, and a writing utensil. Participants are encouraged to share examples of past work with the group (a laptop with web access will be available for those wishing to access online portfolios.) To ensure the best experience for all participants, this workshop is limited to a maximum of 12 people. |
About the Instructor
The heart of Jessica Holleque’s photography is rooted in moments of connection, documenting honest experience, and empowering her subject. She has applied this philosophy to wedding, family, and women’s portraiture, including specific work documenting the female artist experience. She is self taught in both her photography and ceramics mediums. Influenced by her upbringing in northern Minnesota’s rural mining region and her time spent in the field of chemical engineering, she brings curiosity and intentionality to the process of her creative practices. This last year she was an artist resident at both Holden Village and the Grunewald Guild in Washington, as well as traveled around the United States for 6 months completing her Mothers and Makers photography series. |
