Have you ever stood in front of a work of art and felt frustrated, confused, or angry? So have we!
This evening is a time to dig deep and explore ways to engage with all kinds of art – especially pieces that may be unfamiliar, confusing, or challenging. We’ll be talking about key questions to think about when encountering a new work of art, the important difference between appreciating something and liking it, and why some artists deliberately use ambiguity to invite an open-ended “conversation” with viewers.
Our panel this time includes experienced museum professional Ramón Cerna, retired Coast Guard officer turned ceramic artist Mike Middlestead, and our own gallery and program director Sarah Jane. Our conversation will be facilitated by the Arts Center’s executive director, Jessica Elliott, and will include time for questions and insights from the audience.
