Join us for a candid, critical look at how artists find inspiration in sensuality, desire, and the human body – and how the resulting creative work can both elevate and debase its subject. Gallery and Program Director Sarah Jane will join Shakespeare in the Woods Artistic Director Anna Andersen to explore how artists and performers find inspiration in topics including sensuality, desire, and the human body.
The program will begin with two short presentations: an art history lecture from Sarah Jane and an exploration of eroticism in theatre from Anna Andersen. This will be followed by conversation about the how creative work can both elevate and debase its subject, the impact of the male gaze on Western art, and how eroticism can both challenge and inspire us as artists. In addition to topics chosen by the panelists, there will be ample time for questions and insights from the audience.
